Born on September 3, 1852, on a farm in Belle Plaine. He grew to manhood on the farm receiving his education in the rural schools and those of this city. On December 29, 1876, he was united in married to Miss Julie F. Benson. The couple resided on the Guinn homestead until 1901, when they came to Belle Plaine where Mr. Guinn engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He was active in the organization of the Corn Belt Trust and Savings Bank and served as its president. A man of recognized ability and standing, he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives and served during the 24th General Assembly. He was a member of Hope Lodge No. 175. A.F. & A.M., and was one of the few "Fifty Year Masons" of this lodge. He was a member of the Christ Methodist Church.
