Born in Newtonville, Ontario, Canada, September 8, 1839. He moved with his father's family to Wisconsin in 1846, and there grew to manhood in Plymouth, Sheboygan County. He was married in 1813 to Miss Sarah Rounsville and moved to Sac county, Iowa, in 1865, settling on a farm in Douglas township. Mr. Drewry was a man of good education. Besides the privilege of attending the public schools, he also availed himself of the opportunity of attending Lawrence University, of Appleton, Wisconsin for several terms. He was chosen teacher of the public school in the village of Sac City, and taught successfully a number of terms. He also taught during the winter months in various rural schools. In the earlier years of his residence here he served one term as county superintendent. Mr. Drewry affiliated with the Advent Christian church and was a believer in its teachings. He also in recent years entered into the fellowship of the Odd Fellows. Besides the official position mentioned in connection with his work as a teacher, he served a number of terms as township trustee. He was a loyal worker in the Republican Party and in 1891 was honored with the nomination for representative in the 24th general assembly of Iowa. He was elected and served for one term. He was active in the affairs of the Sac County Agricultural Society and also in the farmer's institute.
