Born November 14, 1854, in St. Lawrence County, New York. In 1864 the family moved to Mendota, Illinois, where a few years later Mr. Mayne taught school for some time. He attended school at Valparaiso, Indiana, and at Naperville, Illinois, and in 1882 was graduated from the law department of the state university at Iowa City. The same year Mr. Mayne went to Eagle Grove, and in 1888 moved to Bancroft, where he set up a law office. On December 1, 1886, he married Miss Rose Lauer at Malcolm. In 1902, the family left Bancroft for Algona, and after living here for years moved to Weiser, Idaho, and two years later to Sand Point, Idaho. Mr. Mayne represented Kossuth County in the state legislature in 1895, and during the code reversion extra session in the same year.
