Born in Monroe county, N. Y., September 15, 1830. He studied medicine and graduated at the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati, Ohio, also taking a post graduate course at Jefferson College, Philadelphia. After graduation he practiced his profession in Kentucky, afterwards he removed to Mt. Pulaski, Ills., where he continued his practice. In 1861, Dr. Wemple joined the Fourth Illinois Cavalry and was commissioned Captain by Gov. Richard Yates. He was soon promoted to the office of major and was brevetted colonel for meritorious conduct. Dr. Wemple was married Miss Lucy Butts, August 2, 1853, in Carroll county, Kentucky. He was elected representative from this county to the 27th General Assembly in 1898, and would have been re-elected had not his illness prevented it. In politics he is a staunch republican.
