Born in Holstein, Germany, in 1846. Twenty years later he came to the United States. Before leaving the old country he learned and worked at the tailoring trade. After landing in New York Mr. Nabstedt went to Charleston, Mass., and for one year was employed in a sugar refinery. In 1867 he removed to Iowa, which has been his home for the past thirty-one years. When he reached Davenport he entered and attended a private school for one year. He then got employment in a wholesale firm of clothing and tailoring goods, of which firm he became a silent partner in 1887. In 1890 he retired from that business and went to Europe for three mouths, enjoying a visit amid old scenes and with old friends. Returning from the trip, he began business again with the old firm, the Robert Krause company, remaining till April 1, 1895, in all twenty-five years and five months. Since 1895 Mr. Nabstedt has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business, the firm being Nabstedt & Pierce. Scott county, with Senator Hayward, Representative Dempster and the subject of this sketch, is entirely republican in this session, so far as legislation is concerned. Mr. Nabstedt was married to Miss Dorothy Wagner, January 8, 1868. They have seven children. He is a member of the Lutheran church and is identified with the Masonic and A. O. U. W. lodges. He is a representative and progressive citizen of Davenport, and deserves this honor conferred upon him by his friends, political and social.
