The democrats of Wright and Hancock counties send to the house this winter the Hon. John Christie, Jr., of Garner. He was born in Ontario, Canada, March 5, 1841, and is of Scotch parentage. He was married March 31, 1867, to Miss Polly E. Robbins. They have four daughters and one son. In 1862, in August, Mr. Christie enlisted in the army, in Company B, Thirty-second Iowa, and was a faithful servant of his adopted country till the close of the war. He is a member of the G. A. R. and of the Masonic lodge. He was the first person in Hancock county to receive a degree in the Masonic order, and that was in September, 1872. He is a member of the Universalist church. In 1858 Mr. Christie's parents emigrated from Canada and located in Wisconsin, where they lived three years and removed to Iowa, settling in Hancock county. The subject of this sketch has had rather a remarkable official record in his county, which speaks volumes for his worth as a citizen and as a servant of the public. He held the office of county supervisor for two years. He was the first county auditor elected in Hancock county, elected in 1870 and serving by re-elections continuously till the close of 1877. Again, in 1882, was he re-elected to the same office, which he held till the end of 1889. His constituents need have no fear as to his ability to ably represent them in the house this winter. Mr. Christie is now in the real estate and loan business in Garner. He will be especially active in the matters of legislation pertaining to the reduction of taxation and to the Temple amendment.
