Floyd county sends to the house this winter a staunch republican, the Hon. W. B. Towner of Charles City. He was born at Castleton, Vt., December 25, 1831. He has been a resident of Iowa thirty-three years. Mr. Towner was married December 25, 1857, to Miss Harriet A. Darby, of English ancestry. To them four children have been born, two girls and two boys. Mr. Towner is a member of the Methodist church. He has held the offices of justice of the peace about twenty years, secretary of the school board twenty-two years, and member of the board of supervisors eleven years. He has been unable to take an active interest in affairs pertaining to the legislature because of a severe illness which has afflicted him since election, but from which he will be sufficiently recovered to begin his duties when the solons gather in January.
