He is a young man who has made his own way in the world, and so far has been eminently successful. Dr. Prentis was born in a log cabin, on a farm, in Miami county, Indiana, July 28. 1870. In the fall of 1880 he came with his parents, in a lumber wagon, to Iowa, locating on a farm near Delphos. Four years later his parents died, making it necessary for him to go back to Ohio to live with relatives. While going to school he worked for money to pay his board, finally becoming, in 1888, an honored graduate of Bedford high school. Two years later he became a graduate of Euclid Business College, in Cleveland, Ohio. He then entered the University of Medicine and Surgery in the same city, graduating in 1893 with high honors and receiving first prize for good scholarship. Immediately he returned to Delphos and commenced the practice of medicine. His first vote was cast for Wm. McKinley in 1891. Dr. Prentis was married shortly after graduating to Miss Anna Pfeffer. They have one child, Roscoe Johnson Prentis, aged seven months. The doctor possesses all the traits and abilities for making a first-class Representative and has already proven his aptitude in this direction. He possesses rare gifts as an orator, and during the campaign spoke in different parts of his county, his speeches receiving favorable comment everywhere and from all parties. He is a member of and faithful worker in the Church of Christ.

Republican politicians of Ringgold county return to the Twenty-seventh General Assembly Dr. P. L. Prentis, of Delphos, who served them so faithfully in the Twenty-sixth and the extra session of that term. Dr. Prentis was born in a log cabin on a farm in Miami county, Ind., July 28, 1870. In the fall of 1880 he came with his parents, by wagon, to Iowa, locating on a farm near Delphos. Four years later his parents died, making it necessary for him to go back to Ohio and find a home with relatives. While going to school he worked for his board, and in 1888 was graduated with class honors from the Bedford high school. Two years later he graduated from the Euclid Business college, of Cleveland, after which he entered the University of Medicine and Surgery in the same city. From this college he graduated with high honors in 1893, and also received the first prize for good scholarship. After finishing his medical education he returned to Iowa and Delphos, and there began the practice of medicine. His first vote was cast for McKinley in 1891. He is a young man of exceptional ability, as evidenced by his educational and professional progress. In the Twenty-sixth General Assembly he was the youngest republican member. In that term he seconded the passage of the anti-cigarette bill, also the adoption of an amendment to section 1305 of new revenue laws lowering the rate of assessment of property to 25 per cent of actual cash value. Dr. Prentis was married April 4, 1894, to Anna Pfeffer, and to them has been born a son, Roscoe Johnson. He is an active worker in the Christian church and a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge. Unostentatious in legislative work, yet his success is flattering to so young a man.
