Fayette county contributes to the house this winter a man who has been identified with the industrial interests of his county for forty years. The Hon. Christian Miller is a native of Switzerland, born in that country December 21, 1847. He came to this country in 1856, a poor lad, and began his business career by selling rabbits, prairie chickens and other game of his own hunting. With the surplus proceeds he bought his first calf. Today he owns and personally operates the largest farm in Fayette county, embracing 1,500 acres, and employs more men and pays better wages than any farmer in the county. One of the commendable characteristics of Mr. Miller is that he does not expect them to do more than he himself does toward the progress of the work. Another is his generous charity, as many of the poor of his vicinity can testify. He is noted for his honesty, frugality, industry and sincerity. To the men of his own nationality who have located in his vicinity Mr. Miller has been of much assistance. He is a worthy representative of the people, and it is fitting that they asked him to represent them in the legislature. Aside from his farming interests he is engaged in the dairy and stock raising business. He was married to Anna B. Freiburghans, March 14, 1870. Their children are John F., Mary M., Chris S., William B., Alfred E. and Clara A. Mr. Miller is a member of the Baptist church. He has been a member of the school board for many years. He has always been identified with the republican party.
