Representing Benton county in the legislature. He was born on the farm. He attended Cornell college, afterward entering Bailies Commercial college for a complete commercial education. He graduated from there in 1875. From 1879 till 1884 Mr. Harbert was in the mercantile business in Shellsburg. In 1888 he accepted the position of cashier of the Bank of Shellsburg, which position he still holds. During the time intervening between 1884 and 1888 he was engaged in farming and stock raising. With the actual contact of these business experiences he is amply qualified to most ably fulfill the duties of representative. Mr. Harbert was president of the Shellsburg school board in 1894 and 1895. He has also served his town as a member of the city council. . Mr. Harbert married Miss Minnie A. Reynolds October 28, 1880. They have two sons, Roy E. and Rex P. Harbert. He is a member of the Presbyterian church and is identified with the I. O. O. F. lodge and A. F. & A. M. After the 5th of January, 1898, he will be "at home " to his friends at the Savery House during the weeks of the session.
