Cass county sends a new man to the house this year, but of the same political faith as his predecessor, the Hon. M. J. Davis. The Hon. Marshall N. Baker is a republican, and an active man in that party. He was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1847, and has been a resident of this state forty-three years. He was married in 1869 to Miss Ellen O'Neil, and to them have been born four children, two girls and two boys. He is a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic lodge. When he was but 17 years old, he enlisted in Company F, Forty-fourth Iowa regiment, and served his country faithfully and well till the close of the struggle. Mr. Baker is one of the progressive farmers of the state, and has no hesitancy in saying that he lives in the best county, Cass, and the best state, Iowa, in the union. He is an extensive farmer and stock raiser near Anita. In public service he is new, but comes to the house with the best of experience, that of a successful business man, knowing the needs and desires of his constituents, and prepared to defend them. He is highly respected as a citizen and as a politician.
