Born in Ireland in the year 1839 on July 12 and died in Sheldon on April 14, 1916. He immigrated with his parents to Canada at the age of 14, where he lived for six years and where met his future wife Miss Margaret Roche. They were married in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1860 and of this union there were twelve children. During his residence at Boston, he enlisted in Co. E, Third Mass Heavy Artillery where he served two years with honors. He served as constable and deputy sheriff for twelve years at Negaunee, Michigan and was always active in public life. He was elected to the Iowa Legislature and served with great credit to himself and constituents for the terms of 1900-1902. He was a true blue republican, was fearless in politics, as in community life or as a private citizen. He was a true Christian and a loyal friend.
