Born July 23, 1851, in Clinton, Illinois, son of Mr. And Mrs. Levi Davenport. He came to Alton in 1875. Having studied law in Illinois, Mr. Davenport came to the county court. Davenport moved to Creston in 1890 to make his permanent home. In addition to his interests in his law and abstract office in Creston, in which he continued his interest for many years, Davenport served a two-year term as Union County's representative in the Twenty-ninth General Assembly of Iowa. A councilman at the time, Davenport was chosen to serve as mayor of Creston to finish the unexpired term of J. C. Ferguson in 1918. An extensive owner of both farm lands and city properties, Davenport bought a substantial interest in the Iowa State Savings bank. A heavy stockholder, Davenport served as president of the Iowa State Savings bank until illness forced his retirement from active business. On January 1, 1879, he married Miss Belle Howard. Mr. Davenport was a life-long member of the Methodist Church.
