Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, February 10, 1846, son of Jacob Crouse and. Phoebe Wolverton Crouse. He moved with his parents to Savannah, Illinois, in the spring of 1856, where he lived until the spring of 1867, when he went to Sonora, Illinois, where he worked in a factory. On November 19, 1872, he was united in marriage to Clara E. Edminds, at Carthage, Illinois, where they lived until the spring of 1875, when they moved to Adams county, Iowa, where he resided on a farm, north of Prescott, until moving into Prescott in February,1906. Mr. Crouse lived a very active life, being interested in business and political affairs. He represented Adams County in the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth General Assemblies and served as post master in Prescott for several years and also was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity.
