Born in DeKalb county, Illinois, on March 26, 1857. As a young man he was employed in the mercantile business for several years. On December 28, 1880 he was united in marriage to Miss Olive Philpott. The Buckingham's moved to a farm in Elk township from Somonauk, Illinois. Here they lived until about 12 years ago, when they moved to Alta. They developed one of the finest farms in this section. Mr. Buckingham always took an active part in the public affairs of the community and county, holding various township offices. In 1904 he was elected a Representative of Buena Vista County in the State Legislature which he served for two terms. It was while serving in the lower house the Mr. Buckingham was named on the committee which framed the drainage law of the state, making it possible to transform many acres of swamp land in some of the most fertile fields of the state. It was this. particular law which Mr. Buckingham often referred to with much pride.
