Senator from the Sixth District, composed of the Counties of Adams and Taylor. Born in Corning, Iowa, of American-born parents, who emigrated from Ohio to Iowa in the late sixties. Was educated in the public schools of Corning, supplemented by a course in the Corning Academy. Upon graduating from the latter institution he entered the employ of the First National Bank of Corning. Later he entered the employ of his father in the mercantile business. At the outbreak of the Spanish-American war he enlisted in Company K, Fifty-first Regiment Iowa Volunteers, served through the campaign in the Philippines and was mustered out with the regiment and then went into the mercantile business with his father, which he has followed to the present time. Was married in September, 1900, to Miss Alice Sample. Served as lieutenant and captain of Company K of the Iowa National Guard and now holds the rank of major in that organization. Elected Senator in 1903 and served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies. A Republican in politics.
