Senator from the Twenty-fourth District, composed of the counties of Jones and Cedar. Born in Devonshire, England, of Scotch parents; removed to Scotland at an early age, and came to this country with his widowed mother and a sister in 1871, locating in Delaware county. In 1873 the family moved to Monticello. He worked during the summer months on farms adjoining Monticello and during the winter months he attended the public schools. Was married in 1893 to Agnes Russell of Monticello. Taught school for several terms. Served as assistant postmaster and finally secured a position in a bank in Monticello, of which institution he is the present cashier. Has served as president of the Fair Association of his county, also as president of the Board of Education. Elected Senator in 1903 and has served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies. A Democrat in politics.
