Representative from Sioux county. Born in Peoria county, Illinois, of Scotch and Welch parentage. His parents came to Black Hawk county, Iowa, in the spring of 1855, locating on a farm his father entered from the government. He attended school but little during his boyhood days, as his father's health was poor and he had to devote his time to work on the farm. When twenty years old he attended school for two terms at Hopkinton, Delaware county, afterwards teaching for a term in the country district school. After his term of teaching he attended high school for three years. In 1881 he moved to Sioux county. He devotes his time to farming and stock raising. Was married in 1879 and has a family of four boys and three girls. He has held the office of school director for ten years and school treasurer for fifteen years. Was elected Representative in 1903 and re-elected in 1906, serving in the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies. A Republican in politics.
