Senator from the Tenth District, composed of the counties of Henry and Washington, was born March 4, 1862, on a farm near Primrose, Lee county, Iowa, where his parents, Eli and Martha B. Seeley, first settled in the early forties. His father is a native of Connecticut and his mother of Indiana. He acquired his education in the village school at Primrose, a course in a business college at Burlington and graduated from the Law Department of the State University of Iowa with the class of 1886. On March 4, 1890, he married Miss Elizabeth Ketcham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Ketcham of Bonaparte. In 1900 Mr. Seeley and his family moved to Mount Pleasant, since which time he has been identified with many enterprises for the public good of his home city and southeastern Iowa. He constructed and equipped the Young Men's Christian Association building at Mount Pleasant as a memorial to a deceased brother. Is closely identified with the banking interests in Lee, Van Buren and Henry counties, and is president of the board of education at Mount Pleasant, where he holds other positions of public trust. Is the owner of Springdale stock farm and the Beckwith stock farm adjoining his home town, where he breeds fine stock, as well as on his Clover Lawn farm in Lee county. Is greatly interested in advanced methods of agriculture, being one of the promoters of the Southeastern Iowa short course inaugurated at Mount Pleasant, December 17-22, 1906. Took an active part in organizing the Iowa Short Course Association in 1908, of which he is secretary. Elected Senator in 1906. A Republican in politics.
