His education was acquired in the rural schools. Left the farm in 1881, going to Newton and engaging in the sale of agricultural implements. Since 1893 he has been engaged in manufacturing agricultural implements and is also interested in banking, lumber and mercantile lines. Served eight years as a member of the City Council of Newton. Elected Senator in 1901 and re-elected in 1906; served through the Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth, Thirty-first, Thirty-second and Thirty-second extra General Assemblies. A Republican in politics.
