Senator from the Thirty-third District, composed of Buchanan and Delaware counties, was born October 27, 1871, in Manchester, Delaware county, Iowa. His parents, who were born in Vermont, came to Iowa in 1853 and located in Delaware county. Attended the Manchester public schools, Iowa college at Grinnell and Upper Iowa University at Fayette, graduating from the latter institution in 1891. Took a course in commercial law and banking at Cross' Commercial College, Downers Grove, Illinois. Resided in Manchester until he was twenty-one years of age when he removed to Lamont, Buchanan county, where he organized the Lamont Savings Bank, of which he is still president. Elected Senator in 1908. A Republican in politics.
