Senator from the Sixth District, composed of the counties of Adams and Taylor, was born on a farm near Crawfordsville, Washington county, Iowa, December 1, 1852, of American parentage, his father being a native of New Jersey, his mother of Tennessee. Received his education in the public schools, Howe's Academy at Mt. Pleasant, the State University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Keokuk, Iowa. When twenty years old he left the farm and began the study of medicine, in which he graduated in 1877. Was married to Miss Emma Jackson, a Canadian by birth, July 4, 1876. Began the practice of his chosen profession in his native town, Crawfordsville, where he remained until 1882, when he removed to Lenox, Taylor county, where he has been actively engaged in the practice of medicine for the past twenty-eight years. Is a member of the Taylor County Medical Society, of the Southwest Medical Society and of the Iowa State Medical Society, and has been a member of the Taylor County Board of Pension surgeons since 1898. Is a registered pharmacist by examination in Iowa, also in Nebraska. Has been a member of the town council and of the board of education for many years. Is a director and vice-president of the First National Bank of Lenox, is president of the Lenox and Clearfield Telephone Company and of the Lenox Electric Light and Power Company. Was elected coroner of Taylor county in 1892 and again in 1896. Elected Senator in 1908. A Republican in politics.
