Senator from the Fortieth District, composed of the counties of Allamakee and Fayette, was born on a farm near Maynard, Fayette county, Iowa, on November 28, 1875. His father and mother were among the early settlers of Fayette county. His father was born in New York state, and at an early age came west to Wisconsin, thence to Illinois, and in 1857 to Iowa, where he resided continuously till his death in 1905, excepting four years spent in the army. His mother came to Iowa from Ohio in childhood with her parents, Samuel Cline and wife, and settled in Fayette county in 1855. She still resides on the farm where she went when first married. Mr. Adams attended country school winters until fourteen years of age, when he entered the graded school at Maynard, where he graduated at the age of sixteen; then entered Upper Iowa University at Fayette, and graduated in the class of 1897, having taught one year in the meantime. In the fall of 1897 he became principal of the Waucoma schools, where he taught two years, and until appointed to serve an unexpired term as county superintendent, to which office he was three times elected. In 1905 he resigned and entered the law school of the University of Chicago, which he attended for one year, then entered the Iowa State University law school. Was admitted to the Iowa bar in October, 1907. Returned to Fayette county to practice his profession, locating at West Union, where he became a member of the firm of Rogers & Adams. Was married in 1898 to Miss Ina Holmes, of Fayette, who graduated in the same class in college. To them have been born two daughters. Elected Senator in 1908. A Republican in politics.
