Senator from the Tenth district, composed of the counties of Henry and Washington, was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, February 27, 1844. He moved to Washington county, Iowa, in 1845. He was raised on a farm. He served during the War of the Rebellion as a private in Co. I, of the Twenty-fifth Iowa Infantry. He was clerk of the district court for four years. For some years he edited and published the Washington Gazette. He was secretary of the senate of the thirty-third general assembly. Elected senator in 1910. A republican in politics.
