Senator from the Seventeenth district, composed of the counties of Dallas, Guthrie and Audubon, was born at Caledonia, Livingstone county, New York, May 19, 1858. His parents were American-born, both being of Scotch lineage. He came with them to Iowa in 1876. For many years he was engaged in farming and for three terms was clerk of the district court of Dallas county. He is now engaged in the lumber and grain business at Woodward Iowa. Elected senator in 1910. Appointed a member of the board of control of state institutions by Governor Clarke to succeed Gifford S. Robinson, whose term expired July 1, 1913. A republican in politics.
