Senator from the Thirty-ninth district, composed of Butler and Bremer counties, was born at Marble Rock, Floyd county, Iowa, on the second day of April, 1856. He was of German-Irish descent. Attended rural school and graduated from the Marble Rock high school. Followed farming for a few years, then engaged in the lumber, implement and banking business, at which he is still engaged in the city of Greene, his present home. Served as mayor for three terms and as alderman for one term and a portion of another, resigning the latter office to accept the office of state senator. Elected senator in 1908. Re-elected in 1912. A republican in politics. Died January 21, 1913.
