Senator from the Thirty-eighth district, composed of the counties of Black Hawk and Grundy, was born at Montour, Tama county, Iowa, November 14, 1874. His father was born in New York and his mother in England. His parents were among the first residents of the town of Reinbeck, Grundy county, where they located in 1876, at which place he has since resided. His education was received in the public schools of Reinbeck and at the State University of Iowa, where he graduated from the law department in 1895. He immediately opened an office at Reinbeck, where he has since continued in the practice of law. Elected senator in 1906, and re-elected in 1910. A democrat in politics.
