Senator from the Thirty-fourth district, composed of the counties of Crawford, Harrison and Monona, was born in Linn county, Iowa, October 13, 1852. His father was born in Orange county, Indiana, and was of Irish descent. His mother, Emeline N. Lewis, was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, and was of New England parentage. His father was the first white settler in Linn county, locating there in June, 1837. Mr. Crow grew to manhood on the old homestead in Linn county and received his education in the district schools of that locality. He was married October 15, 1879, to Adelia A. Gillilan, who was born in Linn county, October 26, 1856; to them have been born three children, Mrs. Leo G. Sallinger of Carroll, Iowa, born in Linn county in 1881; Edward Lloyd Crow, born in Crawford county in 1883, and who is now engaged in farming at Mapleton; Guy A. Crow, born in Mapleton in 1886, and now engaged in newspaper work at Sioux City. Mr. Crow moved to Soldier township in Crawford county in 1882 and three years later moved to Mapleton, in Monona county, where he has since resided. He is actively engaged in farming and in the live stock and grain business. He is vice president of the First State Bank of Mapleton. He has always taken an active part in local politics and has been chairman of the democratic county central committee for seven years. He was a delegate to the national democratic convention in 1908 and has always been a consistent democrat. Elected to the senate in 1910.
