Senator from the Twenty-first district, comprising the county of Scott, was born in Davenport, Iowa, January 12, 1859, of German parents. His education was obtained in the schools of his native city. He was engaged in the drug business until 1884, when he retired on account of poor health. Served as deputy clerk of the court of Scott county for five years, as clerk in the law office of Cook & Dodge for four years, as secretary and treasurer of the Iowa Telephone Company for two years, as cashier of the Citizens National Bank of Davenport for seven years and as vice president of the German Savings Bank of Davenport for two years, which latter position he resigned in 1908. Since leaving the last named institution he has devoted his time to looking after his own business affairs. Served in the house of representatives of the thirty-third general assembly as member from Scott county. Was elected senator in 1910. A democrat in politics.

Representative from Scott county, was born in Davenport, Iowa, January 12, 1859, of German parents. Attended the common schools of his native city. At an early age was apprenticed in the drug business, which he followed until 1884, when he was obliged to discontinue the same because of ill health. Since that time has served as deputy clerk of court five years, as clerk in law office of Cook & Dodge four years, as clerk of the district court four years, as secretary and treasurer of the Iowa Telephone Company two years, as cashier of the Citizens National Bank of Davenport, Iowa, seven years, and as vice-president of the German Savings Bank two years, which position he resigned intending to take at least a year's rest before engaging in some other occupation. Is married and has two children, Walter M., an attorney at Davenport, and Miss Adella, at home. Elected Representative in 1908. A Democrat in politics.
