Representative from Lyon county, was born in Davenport, Scott county, Iowa, September 18, 1863, his parents having emigrated from Germany in the latter fifties. His education was acquired in the common schools of Scott county and in 1883 graduated from the Davenport Business College. Spent his entire life on the farm. Was married in 1891 to Miss Meta Kuelper of Scott county, Iowa. To them were born five children, four daughters and one son, all are living. Moved to Lyon county, Iowa, March 1, 1894, onto a farm on which they have since resided. Held the office of township assessor for six years, president of school board for eight years, and township clerk for six years. Secretary of Farmers Elevator Company at Lester, Iowa, for ten years and various other offices. A prominent member of the Knights of Pythias and Sons of Herman lodges. A democrat in politics.
