One of the representatives from Linn county, was born May 17, 1872 on a farm in Worth county, Iowa, of Scotch-Canadian parentage. Moved to Nebraska in 1873 returning to Worth county in 1879. Secured his education in rural schools, Northwood high school, Decorah Institute, State College at Ames, Central Pennsylvania College, Cornell College, Drake University and State University, graduating from the law department of the latter institution in 1901. Practiced law in Mount Vernon and Lisbon until 1908, then moved to Cedar Rapids where he has since resided. Was married to Katherine R. Stahl of Lisbon, Iowa, February 25, 1897 and has one son sixteen years of age. Has held the offices of mayor, city attorney and president of the school board. Is a member of the I.O.O.F. and K.P. lodges. Elected representative in 1916. A republican in politics.
