Senator from the twelfth district composed of the counties of Keokuk and Poweshiek; was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, November 1, 1870. His parents were Henry Laffer and Georgiana Crist Laffer. His father came to Keokuk county from Ohio in 1854. His mother came from Illinois. He was married February 8, 1894, to Mollie A. Crawford of Ainsworth, Washington county, Iowa. Was elected sheriff of Keokuk county in 1897 and re-elected in 1899, being the youngest sheriff in the state at that time. He is now engaged in the harness, saddlery and banking business, being a director in the First National and Union Savings Banks of Sigourney. Elected senator in 1914. A republican in politics.
