Senator from the forty-eighth district, composed of Carroll, Greene and Sac counties, was born in Cedar county, Iowa, on August 25, 1876, of American born parents. His common school education was obtained in the public schools at Tipton and Mechanicsville. Attended the State College at Ames, Iowa, and was in his senior year at the outbreak of the Spanish-American war, when he enlisted as a private in Co. F, Forty-ninth Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served with the regiment until its muster out of the service. Then entered the law department of the State University of Iowa, graduating with the class of 1901. In the same year commenced the practice of law at Manning, Carroll county, Iowa, and in 1904 moved to Carroll, where he has since been engaged in the practice of his profession. In 1904 was elected county attorney of Carroll county, serving one term. For nearly eight years was city attorney of the city of Carroll. Was married in 1905 to Jennie Willey, of Keokuk, Iowa. Elected senator in 1914. A republican in politics.
