Senator from the thirty-eighth district, composed of Black Hawk and Grundy counties, was born in Waterloo, March 24, 1858. His parents came from Massachusetts and were both descendants of Revolutionary stock. When he was six years old his parents moved to a farm near Waterloo and here he remained until of age. Educated in the rural schools and the Field Seminary at Waterloo. Went to Leadville, Colorado, in 1880, and engaged in mining, but returned to Iowa the same year. Traveled on the road for twelve years; quit that Occupation to engage in the real estate business. Has served as park commissioner for six years and is a director in the First National Bank of Waterloo and of the First National Bank of Guthrie Center. Also a director in the Waterloo Saddlery and Electrical Supply Company. Elected representative in 1910. Re-elected in 1912. Elected senator in 1914. A republican in politics.
