Senator from the Third district, composed of Appanoose and Davis counties, was born September 8, 1866. His father and mother were born in Scotland. He lived his boyhood days in Warren county, Illinois, and then moved to Centerville, Iowa, with his parents in 1882. After graduating from the Centerville high school he went to the State University of Iowa and graduated from the law department in 1896. In the year of his graduation he was elected county attorney and served four years. Later he was city attorney of Centerville for four years. Married Miss Flora M. White, December 24, 1891. At present he is an active lawyer of Centerville. Is a Mason, an Elk and a Woodman. Elected senator in 1912, and re-elected in 1916. A republican in politics.
