Senator from Clarke and Warren counties. Born in the village of Liberty, Clarke county, Iowa, June 13, 1862. Came to Indianola in 1881, and has since made that his home. His father represented Clarke county in the sixteenth general assembly. Educated in the country schools and Simpson College, and is now president of its board of trustees. A lawyer with many years practice. Married and has a son and daughter living and two grandchildren. Was six years clerk of Warren county. Served as city solicitor for Indianola and as presidential elector in 1898; an official member in the Methodist Episcopal church. Republican in politics and was senator in the thirty-third, thirty-fourth and thirty-seventh general assemblies.

Senator from the district composed of Clarke and Warren counties; was born in the village of Liberty, Clarke county, Iowa, June 13, 1862. His parents were West Virginians, and came west, settling in Clarke county, Iowa, in the spring of 1856. His father Hon. Jacob Proudfoot, represented Clarke county in the house of the 16th general assembly. Senator Proudfoot attended the district school in the village where he was born, and completed his education at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa. After leaving college he entered a law and abstract office in Indianola, and in 1892 was elected clerk of the district court of Warren county, Iowa, serving six years. While in an attorney's office and serving as clerk he prepared himself for admission to the bar and at the close of his six years of service as clerk, entered the practice of law in Indianola, where he has ever since been actively engaged in that profession. He served for many years as secretary of the school board, also as city solicitor for Indianola, and is now a member of the city library trustees, and a trustee of Simpson college. He was a republican presidential elector for the 7th congressional district in 1898, and for many years in succession reading clerk of republican state conventions, and was before the republican primary as a candidate for governor in 1912. He was in the 33d and 34th general assemblies as senator from the district which he is now serving. In 1885 he married Louie L. Posegate and has a son 14 years of age, and a daughter Mrs. Charity M. Hillis, living in Indiana. Has been an official member of the Methodist Episcopal church for more than 25 years, and in politics has always been a republican.

Was four years City Solicitor for the city of Indianola, Iowa, and for six years Chairman of the Republican Committee of Warren county, and for a number of years in succession was Reading Clerk of Republican State Conventions. Was Presidential Elector for the Seventh Congressional District in 1904. Elected Senator in 1908. A Republican in politics.
