Senator from the Forty-first district composed of Mitchell, Winnebago and Worth counties, was born on a farm in Winnebago county, Iowa, March 27, 1875, of Norwegian parentage. He attended the rural schools and later on St. Ansgar Seminary, Augsburg Seminary, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and entered the State University of Iowa in 1896. Graduated from the College of Liberal Arts and Law in June, 1901. He located at Forest City, Iowa, in June 1901, for the practice of law where he resided until February, 1909, when he moved to Lake Mills in the same county, where he has since resided. Was elected county attorney of Winnebago county in 1904 and held the office for two terms. He represented Winnebago county in the thirty-fifth general assembly and was elected state senator in 1916, on the republican ticket.
