Served as assistant county attorney for Pottawattamie county from 1899 to 1903, and as city solicitor for the city of Council Bluffs from 1906 to 1912. Is a member of the Masonic order, the Knights of Pythias and of the Council Bluffs Rowing Association. Elected senator in 1912. Re-elected in 1916. A republican in politics.
