Senator from the Seventeenth district, composed of the counties of Audubon, Guthrie and Dallas, was born and reared in Guthrie county. Educated in the State Agricultural College at Ames and graduated from the law department of the State University of Iowa in 1879. Beginning in 1880 he served three terms as county auditor of Guthrie county. For many years was an abstracter of titles and practicing attorney. Owns a farm of 1,240 acres adjoining Guthrie Center and is interested largely in live stock business. Is president of the First National Bank of Guthrie Center, and First National Bank of Stuart, and director and majority stock owner in Montieth Savings Bank. Is also president of Iowa Loan and Investment Company and president of Iowa Farm Mortgage Company. Elected senator to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Anthony M. McColl.
