Senator from the Thirty-ninth district, composed of the counties of Bremer and Butler, was born on a farm, near Waterloo, Iowa, November 8, 1869. His parents, John O. and Rebecca Evans, American born, came to Iowa from Pennsylvania in 1856. He attended country school and completed the work at the East Waterloo High School as a member of the class of 1889. Entered the State University of Iowa the fall of 1892. Owned and published the Vidette-Reporter, the university newspaper, during 1895 and 1896. Was graduated from the College of Liberal Arts in 1896 and the College of Law in 1897. Has practiced law at Parkersburg, Iowa, since June, 1897. Married Lela Phelps of Independence, Iowa, June 25, 1902. Has one son. Was county attorney of Butler county in 1905 and 1906. Elected senator in 1916. A republican in politics.
