Senator from the Thirteenth district, comprising Wapello county. Was born at Burlington, Iowa, January 11, 1869. Lawyer of twenty years general practice. Married. Elected senator in 1914, and served in the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh general assemblies; re-elected 1918. His father, Francis S. Whitmore, was a Union veteran of the Civil war. Military service, four years in Company "G" Fifty-fourth regiment, Iowa National Guard. In the war with the German Empire had a son, Kenneth S. Whitmore, quartermaster on U.S.S.S. von Steuben; and stepson, Frank W. Hook, in artillery officers' training school at Louisville. A republican in politics.

Senator from the Thirteenth district composed of Wapello county, was born at Burlington, Iowa, January 11, 1869, son of American parents, Francis S. Whitmore and Maria E. Vreeland, of Brooklyn, New York. Educated in grade and high schools at Burlington, and Osceola, Iowa. Earned his own way through the Chicago college of law (Lake Forest University, Bachelor of Laws); being admitted to practice in supreme court of Illinois in 1896, gaining practical experience in his profession in several large law offices of Chicago. In 1900 he was admitted to practice in the supreme court of Iowa. He then located at Ottumwa, where he has since been continuously engaged in the active practice of his profession. Admitted to practice in supreme court of United States in 1913. Married to Grace Simmons, of Osceola, March 16, 1892. Married again April 15, 1907, to Carrie S. Hook, of Antioch, Illinois. Member State Bar association of Iowa; American Bar Association; American Society of International Law. Military service, four years in Company "G" Fifty-fourth Regiment, Iowa National Guard. A republican in politics.
