Representative from Hamilton county, Iowa, was born on a farm in McLean county, Illinois, January 22, 1863. He attended the district school, the LeRoy high school and Illinois Wesleyan university. He taught school for several years. August 16, 1888, he was married to Minnie Gilmore of LeRoy, Illinois. In 1890 he came to Hamilton county, Iowa, and engaged in farming and teaching, until the fall of 1910 when he was elected clerk of the district court of Hamilton county, which office he served for six years. Mr. Sterling's family consists of six children, four girls and two boys. Elected representative in 1918 and 1920. A republican in politics.
