Representative from Pocahontas county, was born in Wisconsin, October 13, 1859, his education was acquired in the common and high schools in Wisconsin. He came to Pocahontas county, Iowa, in 1881, locating on a farm. In July, 1884, he married Miss Dena Christensen of Boscobel, Wisconsin. They have six children, five of them now graduates of the State University of Iowa. He owns one-third interest in the Rolfe Grain and Milling Company of which he is president. He was one of the organizers of the Pocahontas County Farmers' Institute and also the Pocahontas County Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company of which he is president. One of the organizers of the Farmers' Elevator of Pocahontas, Iowa, was its first secretary nine years. He is presiding elder in the First Presbyterian church of Rolfe. Elected representative in 1918 and in 1920. A republican in politics.
