Senator from twenty-seventh district, composed of Webster and Calhoun counties, was born on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa, September 7, 1869; served as apprentice to brick mason and to printer; clerked in grocery and dry goods stores; worked his way through normal school; was engaged in public school work fourteen years. Settled in Rockwell City, where he has been city superintendent and now resides. He has managed the local (Central Mutual) telephone company since its organization. His largest financial interest is in farming. He is also interested in a number of banks. Was married in 1895 to Mattie A. Forest, of Dunlap, Iowa, and to this union two children were born, Donald in 1901, and Dorothy in 1905. Served as secretary and chairman of the republican county central committee. Elected to the Iowa senate in 1916 and 1920. A republican in politics.

Senator from twenty-seventh district, composed of Webster and Calhoun counties; was born on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa, September 7, 1869. His father, Hugo Holdoegel, was of German birth and served in the federal army during the war of the rebellion. His mother, Miriam Mendenhall, was of American birth. In his boyhood he served as apprentice to brick mason and spent some time in the printing office. He clerked in grocery and dry goods stores and after working his way through normal school taught one year in the country school and three years in the public school in Dunlap. In 1891 he took charge of the schools in Rockwell City and served that district seven years, then he removed to Manson to take charge of the public schools, in which capacity he served three years, when he returned to Rockwell City, where he still resides, and became interested in a general line of business. He has managed the local (Central Mutual) telephone company since its organization and has been active in the anti-monopoly telephone fight. His largest financial interest is in farming and he devotes much of his time to Chesterplace, an up-to-date stock farm at Rockwell City. He is also interested in local banks. He was married in 1895 to Mattie A. Forest of Dunlap, Iowa, and to this union two children were born, Donald in 1901 and Dorothy in 1905. Served as secretary and chairman of the Republican County Central Committee. Elected to the Iowa Senate in November, 1916. A republican in politics.
