In 1859 moved with his parents to Anamosa, Iowa, where he has since resided. Received his education in the rural schools. Was married in 1882 and has two daughters. Has been engaged in farming for many years, in buying and selling grain and in the grocery and meat business. Was county supervisor for eight years. Elected representative from Jones county in the thirty-sixth general assembly. Elected senator in 1916 and 1920. A republican in politics.
