Senator from the thirty-ninth district, composed of the counties of Butler and Bremer, was born at Clarksville, Iowa, his present home. He is a republican in politics. He was educated in the public schools, high school and private college. Early in life he learned the printer's trade and for thirty-five years, almost continuously, he has been connected with the Clarksville Star, of which he is at present editor and publisher. He was clerk for several years of his home town, assessor for ten years, and deputy county treasurer for one term. He was reared in the Presbyterian faith, and is of Scotch-Irish descent. He is a Canton Odd Fellow, thirty-two years has been a Knight of Pythias. He married Delia Shafer, and they have two daughters, Georgia Edna, now Mrs. Gay Jackson, and Alice Lavon. Was elected state representative in 1920 and reelected in 1922. Elected senator in 1924.

He was clerk for many years for his home town, assessor for ten years, deputy county treasurer for one term. He is a republican in politics. He married Delia Shafer, and they have two daughters, Edna Georgia, now Mrs. Gay Jackson, and Alice Lavon. Is a canton Odd Fellow, twenty-seven years Knight of Pythias, and belongs to other minor fraternal organizations. He was reared in the Presbyterian faith.

Representative from Butler county, was born at Clarksville, Iowa, at which place he still resides. His parents were of Scotch-Irish descent and were natives of Pennsylvania, migrating later to Adams county, Ohio, and in 1861 removed to Iowa, settling on a farm in Butler county. His parents died early in his life and he therefore was compelled to earn his own way and education, completing a high school course and private college course. Early in life learned the printer's trade and for thirty-one years almost entirely, he has been connected with the Clarksville Star, a newspaper he is now publisher and editor. He was clerk for many years for his home town, assessor for many years, deputy county treasurer for one term in his county. He is a republican in politics. He married Della Shafer, who had previously been his life-long neighbor, and they have two daughters, Edna Georgia, now Mrs. Gay Jackson, and Alice Lavon. Is a canton Odd Fellow, twenty-five years Knight of Pythias, and other minor fraternal organizations. He was reared in the Presbyterian Christian faith, while his immediate family are affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal society.
