Senator from the forty-sixth district, comprising Cherokee, Ida and Plymouth counties. Was born of Scotch parentage on the second day of March, 1884, near Aurora, Illinois. His parents moved to Cherokee county, Iowa, in the fall of 1885 and to a farm in the spring of 1886. He received his graded school experience in the rural schools, taught in the rural schools for one year, graduated from the Iowa State Teachers' College at Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1907, was superintendent of schools at Hopkinton, Iowa, from 1907 to 1909, attended the law school of the University of Michigan during the school year of 1909-1910, a member of the Northwestern debating team of 1911, graduated from the University of Chicago, Illinois, in 1912, with degrees Ph.D. and, J.D.; county superintendent of schools of Cherokee county, 1913 to 1917; county attorney, Cherokee county, 1917 to 1927, the general practice of law since 1917; a member of the Presbyterian church and affiliated with the following lodges: Masons, Yeomen, and Knights of Pythias. Married Olive M. Johnson June 11, 1914. Has three children, Helen Esther, Jimmie Lew, and Billy Bruce. A republican in politics. Residence Cherokee, Iowa.
