Representative from Marion county, was born of American parentage on a farm in this county. His grandfather, a native of Ohio, was one of the pioneers of Iowa, having originally settled in Van Buren county, but later removed to Marion county, where the family has since resided. His education was acquired in the common schools, the Des Moines Baptist College, the Rochester (N. Y.) Business College and the law department of the State University of Iowa, being a member of the law class of 1900. Since that time he has been engaged in the practice of law at Knoxville. Prior to entering the law department of the State University he spent a number of years as a teacher in normal and business colleges. He was first elected to the Legislature in 1903, re-elected in 1906. Served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second, Forty-fifth and Forty-sixth General Assemblies.
