Senator from the thirty-seventh district. Born April 27, 1896, at Jewell, Iowa. Received his education in the Jewell public schools, the Jewell Lutheran college, and the State University of Iowa. World war veteran and a member of the American Legion. Married in 1921 to Miss Leafy Bergum of Westby, Wisconsin, and they have two children living, Irving Howard and Metta Nell. Member of the Lutheran church. Engaged in the auction, real estate and general insurance business. Was elected state representative in 1924, 1926, and 1928, and state senator in 1930, and in 1934. In March 1935, while serving as state senator, received a republican appointment by the governor to the state highway commission for a four year term, beginning July 1, 1935. A republican.

Received his education in the Jewell public schools, the Jewell Lutheran college, and the State University of Iowa. In February, 1919, he enlisted as a private in the World war, and was discharged in April, 1919, as sergeant first class. Upon leaving the service, he took a position with the State Bank at Jewell, and at the same time became a partner with his father, Gilbert Knudson, in the general and live-stock auction business. In the fall of 1921 he was married to Miss Leafy Bergum of Westby, Wisconsin. They have two sons, Irving Howard, born October, 1922, and John Gilbert, born March, 1928. He is a member of the Lutheran church; was president of the Jewell community club for two terms; was a charter member of the Hawkeye Post No. 550 of the American Legion. Returning from the forty-first general assembly, he moved to Ellsworth, Iowa, where he is now engaged in the real estate, insurance and auction business. During the same year he was elected president of the Hamilton county bankers association and elected a director in the State Bank of Jewell, Jewell, Iowa. This same year he joined the Chris Christenson Post No. 598 of the American Legion, Ellsworth, Iowa, and has been a member ever since. He was elected state representative in 1924 and re-elected in 1926 and 1928. Elected senator in 1930. A republican in politics.
