Cresco Republican 42nd Senatorial District Howard and Winneshiek Counties. Born at Elma, Iowa, June 9, 1916, son of Reed and Goldie Elwood. Graduated from Upper Iowa University, B.A. degree, 1938; graduated from University of Iowa law school, Juris Doctor degree 1940. Became member of armed forces in April, 1941; served in the infantry, Adjutant General's Department and air corps until November, 1945. Entered practice of law in Cresco January 1, 1946; elected county attorney of Howard county and served in that capacity from January 1, 1947 until January 1, 1955; was elected to the state Senate from Howard and Winneshiek counties in November 1954. Married Patricia Emal of Iowa Falls on June 29, 1947; has a son, Robert, and a daughter, Kathryn. Member of the American Legion, Kiwanis International, Masonic lodge, Consistory and Shrine, Methodist church. Presently engaged in the practice of law in Cresco, Iowa, and the operation and management of real estate investments.
